$CATE Update: A +224% Gain Isn't Enough to Avoid the LP Trap
$CATE (Catecoin) continues to rise following its listing on KuCoin-the price has soared 93% over the past 24 hours and is up 224% since our first analysis. But that doesn’t mean the main risk has disappeared. On the contrary: half of the liquidity remains in the hands of the deployer, and this could result in a dump at any moment.
What’s Changed in the Past Week
A month ago, we gave $CATE a 4/10 rating-SKIP-despite an 18,900% pump, because the distribution seemed risky. Now the situation has improved:
- Volume has grown from zero to $10.3M in 24 hours-the token is alive and actively traded (111K buys, 163K sells)
- There are now 64,711 holders instead of just a few thousand-the distribution has truly become more widespread
- The top 10 holders hold only 13.3% of the supply (it used to be worse)-this is a healthy distribution for a meme coin
- The deployer holds 0% and cannot mint additional tokens (minting has been revoked)
- The token went through a bonding curve before listing-this means that hundreds of people committed funds BEFORE it went live on the DEX
But the trap isn’t closed
The main red flag remains: only 35.1% of the LP is locked. This means that 64.9% of the liquidity can be withdrawn at any time. With a volume of $10.3M and a depth of $625K, such a dump would cause the price to plummet by at least 70-80% within hours.
Add to this the deployer’s track record: they’ve already dumped 1 token in the past. This isn’t a serial offender, but the fact remains and must be factored into the calculations.
No social media accounts or website were found, but this is offset by the listing on KuCoin-a mention from a major exchange (albeit with zero followers in our data) serves as a confidence booster in the market.
Metrics and Risks
- FDV/Liquidity: 29.8x-moderately inflated, but not critical for a meme coin
- Age: 164 hours (~7 days)-the token has survived its first day, which is a good sign
- Sells/Buys: 1.47x more sells than buys-normal for a rising token (sellers are taking profits)
- Honeypot: No, no taxes, selling is active
According to our database statistics: tokens with LP locked at less than 50% pump by an average of +0.57 in our historical data (n=42). But this very condition leads to gains of 80%+ in 70% of cases, provided the LP is withdrawn anyway. $CATE is in a zone of maximum uncertainty.
Verdict
The Canon score has improved from 45/100 to nearly 70: the distribution is spread out, the mint has been revoked, and the deployer has a 0% holding. But the LP trap remains. The +224% gain is real and confirmed by volume, but that doesn’t change the bottom line: half the pool is at risk of being withdrawn.
If you’re already in a position, now is the time to lock in 30-50% of your profits while the opportunity lasts. If you’re thinking of entering, only invest an amount you’re willing to lose 100% of, and set a stop-loss at 50%.
