Stablecoin issuance: the most honest indicator of money flowing into crypto
The aggregate capitalization of stablecoins is a metric without poetry: how many dollars actually stand inside the crypto market. Its dynamics are one of the most reliable structural indicators.
The indicator's logic
Stables get printed when someone brings dollars in (the issuer receives fiat - mints tokens) and burned on withdrawal. Cap growth = net money inflow into the ecosystem: not yet a bitcoin purchase, but the ammo is already in the warehouse. Contraction = money leaving crypto entirely - the most bearish backdrop, where any price rally is a reshuffle, not an inflow.
How to read it
- The cap trend (weeks): growth while price moves sideways - powder accumulating, historically a bullish setup.
- Large mints, specifically: a fresh mint of hundreds of millions that moves to an exchange - the ammo is loaded. A mint into the issuer's treasury is just restocking.
- Stables' share of total crypto cap: high = the market is on defense (lots of cash), low = everyone is positioned, no one left to buy.
