Signals hours before a rug: what's visible on-chain while chat still believes
From inside the chat, a rug is always "sudden." On-chain - almost never: preparation for a dump leaves traces hours and days in advance. Seven warning signs our rug watch looks at.
Warning Signs
- 1. Splitting of insider supply: large wallets distribute their positions across dozens of fresh ones - preparing a dump that won't look like "one big red whale candle."
- 2. Test sells: small trial dumps from team wallets - checking the pool's and bots' reaction.
- 3. Transfers to exchanges from a cluster: insider wallets send to CEX deposit addresses one after another - the exit route is being built.
- 4. Expiring lock: LP unlock date just days away - a countdown in its purest form.
- 5. Contract rights change: a sudden transferOwnership, proxy upgrade, tax changes - technical preparations.
- 6. Silence after hyperactivity: a team that was flooding chats with "partnerships" suddenly goes quiet - the decision has been made.
- 7. Insiders unstaking their own tokens: insiders withdraw tokens from the protocol's staking - preparing to sell what was supposedly "locked forever."
How to React
One signal is a yellow flag and an alert; two to three mean exit without discussion: the cost of the question is the sell impact, the cost of delay is everything. Our engine monitors insider wallets of analyzed tokens and posts alerts to the feed; a record of triggered alerts is in rug watch.
